Piano Lessons in Tunbridge Wells

Musical confidence at the keyboard, for all ages.

Intelligent and imaginative piano lessons in Tunbridge Wells taught by Ali Rycroft. Lessons are designed to help you grow as a musician, as well as a pianist.

Ali's teaching style blends keyboard playing with singing, movement, and creative music-making. Ali wants her students to enjoy themselves, develop musical confidence, and build a strong foundation in pulse, rhythm, inner hearing, and harmony. You won't just learn notes - you will learn to listen, improvise, compose, and connect with music in a personal and joyful way.

Teaching materials include Piano Safari, Kodaly musicianship and tonic solfa, Colourkeys and a variety of enjoyable music from different genres. Lessons can include preparation for ABRSM and Trinity music exams at the right time for the student.

Piano Lessons for Children

Learning through Play and Exploration.

One-to-one in person lessons for 30-45 minutes in Tunbridge Wells. A carefully structured sequence helps young players work towards reading music on the grand stave, using both hands at the piano. Alongside playing, we might sing, move, and explore music altogether - it’s fun, creative, and full of surprises.

Parents or carers are required to join lessons, especially at the beginning, support practice at home and stay involved in your child’s progress.

A piano or keyboard at home

To support regular practice, students will need access to a full-size 88-key piano or a good-quality digital keyboard with touch-sensitive keys and a sustain pedal. Acoustic pianos should be tuned regularly. Please check the suitability of your piano/keyboard with me before beginning lessons.

Piano for Adults: Revive or Begin

Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn the piano but never got the chance. Maybe you learned years ago and want to revive your skills, or perhaps you’d like to build the confidence to improvise, compose, or play from chord symbols and lead sheets. Whatever your goal, it's never too late.

Adult lessons are flexible and individually arranged to suit your availability and interests. We’ll work at your pace, with a focus on enjoyment and steady, meaningful progress.

A Musical Community

While lessons are one-to-one, it is great for students to play together. From time to time, I team up with other local teachers for concerts where children have the opportunity to perform to a friendly audience - a lovely chance to share progress and celebrate music-making.
